The first-round opponent is finally set!

We knew the Boston Bruins would be participating in the 2022 NHL Postseason for quite some time now, but it took till game 82 of the regular season to find out who they would be playing in the first round.

With a Bruins loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs and a Tampa Bay Lightning win over the New York Islanders last night, Boston will officially play the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round.

The Bruins did struggle against the Hurricanes this season. They went 0-3-0 against Carolina, losing the games 3-0, 7-1 and 6-0, but they haven't played each other since February 11th.

The NHL has already released the first-round schedule:

Game 1: Monday, May 2 at 7pm EST
Game 2: Wednesday, May 4 at 7 pm EST
Game 3: Friday, May 6 at 7 pm EST
Game 4: Sunday, May 8 at 12:30 pm EST
Game 5: Tuesday, May 10 at TBD
Game 6: Thursday, May 12 at TBD
Game 7: Saturday, May 14 at TBD
(bold indicates home games)

Head coach Bruce Cassidy commented on the matchup after the game in Toronto last night:

"They had their way with us this year. Some of that was a while ago, and I think our team is in a much better place ... so we're not going to take too much stock in that. We had success against them in the playoffs recently, and again, two different teams; we can't take too much stock in that either ... they're all good teams [in the playoffs], all have certain strengths, and we expect Carolina to be a difficult opponent."
