Hitting the ice for practice after a huge 3-2 win over the Lightning last night, Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy was rolling out some new-look lines today.
With captain Patrice Bergeron nearing his return to action and newly acquired defenseman Josh Brown joining his teammates for the first time, the B's practice roster was a little more crowded than usual this morning.
Boston's depth was on full display as some first liners were bumped from their spots and landed on bottom line roles. That's the case with centerman Jack Studnicka, who filled in for Bergeron over the past few games but was centering the B's "fifth" line this morning.
The same can be said of defenseman Mike Reilly. The blueliner operated as Charlie McAvoy's sidekick on Boston's top pair for most of the season, but was a healthy scratch last night as he was left out for Hampus Lindholm's debut.
Reilly was paired up with Brown on the B's "fourth" pair for today's practice.
How the Bruins decide to play each guy from here to the end of the regular season will be interesting. The Bruins will face the Senators, Sabres, Blue Jackets, Red Wings and Habs, among others, in the coming weeks.
Perhaps Sweeney and Cassidy will use those games against lesser competition to test out some of their new additions? We'll make sure to keep you posted!
