The Quebec Nordiques were relocated to Denver, Colorado, in May of 1995 and were renamed the Colorado Avalanche. Just like the Winnipeg Jets, there has been rumblings of a return for Quebec to the NHL.
It appears that Gary Bettman is in no hurry to move the Coyotes out of Arizona (although they should), but apparently, that hasn't stopped the NHL from looking at other potential markets. Bettman has been pretty adamant about his refusal to return to Quebec City, but that hasn't stopped him from keeping tabs.
As reported by Jonathan Trudeau (@JETrudeau), radio host and columnist in Quebec, Bettman met with Quebec's finance minister, Eric Girard, in a private meeting to see if the city would be a fit for an NHL if need be.
The meeting was dubbed as "a courtesy to keep the channels of communication open," but there are many reports that Bettman is unsure that the Tempe City Council may refuse the Arizona Coyotes' new arena plans for 2026.
