Hockey Community Rallies for Brad Maxwell Amid Cancer Battle

Heartfelt news reverberated through the hockey community on Tuesday, revealing that veteran NHL defenseman Brad Maxwell is courageously facing a battle against lung cancer, which has sadly metastasized to other parts of his body.

"With deep sadness, we convey that Brad Maxwell is presently contending with an aggressive form of lung cancer that has spread," shared a GoFundMe post. "As a former player of the Minnesota North Stars and the current President of the MN NHL Alumni, he has graced the ice with moments of joy and thrill for countless fans. It's a tough revelation that traditional chemotherapy and radiation treatments have yielded no progress. However, we hold optimism for the innovative treatment he is currently undergoing to triumph over cancer."

Originally from Brandon, Manitoba, Maxwell's hockey journey spanned 612 games over ten seasons. He adorned the jerseys of the Minnesota North Stars, Quebec Nordiques, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, and New York Rangers. His impressive stats include 368 points and 1,292 penalty minutes. Notably, his tenure with the North Stars saw him play a pivotal role in their journey to the 1981 Stanley Cup Final.

As Maxwell's fight against cancer continues, the hockey world joins together to send their support, recognizing the indomitable spirit he once exhibited on the ice and now carries in his battle against this formidable opponent.
