The Boston Bruins are trending up at the right time of the season. After a three-game slide last week, the club has now won two in a row against tough competition: the Pittsburgh Penguins and the St. Louis Blues.

The Bruins were able to contain a hot Blues team on Tuesday night, who were on a nine-game winning streak.

The powerplay went 0 for 2 and is mired in an 0 for 27 stretch that hasn't scored in the team's last eight games. Although the Bruins are having powerplay struggles, the previous two games have been some of their best defensive efforts of the season.

Head coach Bruce Cassidy commented on his team's defence:

"I thought we did a good job against a real good offensive team. That's our game. If we play like that, we're hard to play against."

He also discussed the Bruins' effort while missing some key players:

"You don't wanna make excuses this time of year for that. Obviously, there's certain areas of our game that I think have been well documented when we're missing with Pasta and Lindholm out and some other guys; there's opportunities for other players."
