The Boston Bruins lost the first two games of the series in convincing fashion to the Carolina Hurricanes in their best-of-seven series. There weren't a lot of people that didn't have the Bruins all but out of the series already.

After Boston took the first game at home 4-2 without defenseman Hampus Lindholm, the team got terrible news as their top defenseman Charlie McAvoy was now in COVID protocol. However, without their top d-pairing, the Bruins pulled off an excellent 5-2 win to tie the series 2-2, heading back to Raleigh.

Bruins' defenseman Connor Clifton spoke to the media about what it took to beat a good Hurricanes team without two top players:

"I think just collectively, we're all going to pick up a couple more minutes. Obviously, no one's going to replace what Charlie brings to the table, and the minutes he plays. So collectively, we all pick up a couple of minutes here and there and play the best game we can as the six d there."

Clifton was asked about the steady shorthanded unit the Bruins have had so far in the playoffs:

"I think we've been pretty good all year for whatever reason. A little more aggressive during the playoffs, and it's surprising Carolina. We're making plays, and we're blocking shots, and Sway's making big saves. We're playing pretty good now, especially on the penalty kill."

Clifton is one of those guys that go unnoticed playing alongside another quiet guy in Derek Forbort, but the two have been crucial to the Boston Bruins penalty kill and two big wins at home.
