Boston Bruins Patrice Bergeron won his record-breaking fifth Frank J. Selke award on Sunday night. The captain was also a finalist for a record 11th straight season.

Bergeron was interviewed afterward by Bruins media on his award-winning day and the recent reports of the procedure he underwent on his arm. He was asked what winning the Selke again means to him:

"It's an honour. I think I'm humbled, that's the first word that comes to mind. It's an individual award, but obviously, you can't get any of those without the help of all of your teammates. I've said that in my acceptance speech, there are so many people to thank, and they're the reason why. I've been fortunate enough to play on great teams and to win five Selkes; it goes to them."

He was asked about the photos going around of his arm wrapped in some sort of brace and if he had some kind of procedure done.

"Yeah, I had surgery on my left elbow to repair a tendon. It was something that I've dealt with for probably the last two years, a little less maybe. Eventually, we spoke to the doctors, and at some point, I had to get it fixed."

Bergeron discussed that getting the surgery won't affect his decision to retire or not but that it only delayed his decision process.

"I've said I needed time, and I still think I have a lot of time ahead of me to make that decision. I'm going to make sure that I'm taking all that time that I need to make the right one, and that's it. Right now, I haven't really had time, but it [surgery] doesn't really change anything."

He announced that the recovery time for his surgery is around the 10 to 12-week range and that he's hoping it's only 10. He noted that he had the surgery last Tuesday (June 1st).
