Eras change, and even though both are still elite players, there's definitely new players at the top of the world besides Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin (i.e. Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews).
The amount of scoring has also went up in the league, as elite talent is very spread out across all teams.
Several teams have gotten better, while others have dropped off and a few have been able to be consistent contenders.
