Aaron Ekblad's fate with the Boston Bruins was just revealed and it's shocking
As the off-season winds down, trade rumors surrounding Aaron Ekblad, have picked up.
The 28-year old defenseman, who has just secured his first Stanley Cup could be traded, due to his $7.5 Million AAV cap hit. He could be a great rental for a contender.
As GM Bill Zito will be prioritizing signing Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Bennett, it looks like Aaron Ekblad could be a cap casualty as a result.
Rumors picked up when the Toronto Sun's Steve Simmons reported that in order to free-up cap space they might trade Ekblad, after Brandon Montour left for Seattle.
But the Bleacher Report's Lyle Richardson cast doubts upon those reports, as Montour and Oliver Ekmann-Larsson's exits leave Ekblad as the teams best right-shot defenseman.
Ekblad currently has a 12-team no-trade clause which may not include the Bruins, Richardson believes Ekblade's role on the team has made him safe, given how aggressive Zito is with trades.
Ekblad's trade rumors may persist, but nothing is confirmed yet.
In the past three seasons, Ekblad has scored 113 points( 33 G, 80 A), +51 rating, 224 hits, 208 blocked shots and 183 games played.
