On this day July 21st, 1981 the Bruins made a huge trade that affected the franchise.

They made a trade with the Colorado Rockies, who had yet to transplant to New Jersey and become the Devils.

The Boston Bruins received the 1st round and 2nd round pick from the Colorado Rockies.

This was compensation from the Rockies who would sign RFA Dwight Foster and would send a 1st-round pick in 1982 and a 10th-round pick in return.

The

acquire a 1st (Gord Kluzak) and 2nd (Brian Curran) round pick in 1982 from the Colorado Rockies for Dwight Foster, a 1st (Ken Daneyko) and 10th (Tony Gilliard) round pick in 1982

Gord Kluzak would be selected with the overall pick, despite the 1982 Draft being considered the Brian Bellows sweepstakes.

While the Rockies would select Ken Danyeko, who would spend his entire career with the New Jersey Devils, he would win three Stanley Cups in New Jersey.

Whereas Gord Kluzak would ultimately be a day-to-day player by the end of his NHL career. Prior to being drafted, knee injuries plagued the defenseman in juniors and as a result of a Kluzak being destroyed in his 2nd season in the NHL would never recover.

If he was playing today there would be technology to make him the long-tenure defenseman he should've been, but ultimately he was unable to be the player he should've been.
