It seems like the team had a deal set in place, but due to demands from the forward, it seems to have fallen apart.
These demands were seen as unreasonable.
The deal was set to be completed by the Montreal Canadiens and the Winnipeg Jets, for Filip Mesar, a 2025 1st Round Pick, and either Jordan Harris or Justin Barron in return for Rutger McGroarty.
But Kent Hughes wasn't interested in these demands as GM.
McGroarty was the Jets 14th overall pick in 2022, and a Hobey Baker Award winner. His 91 points in 75 games with the University of Michigan, would make him a top trade target, but his attitude has apparently made him an issue.
According to Ryan Dixon, the Boston Bruins are still active in trying to acquire the former 1st round pick.
While the Bruins are interested in McGroarty, but you can't help but wonder if the Bruins, like the Habs, Flames and Wild aren't too eager to give into McGroarty's demands.
The 20-year-old, has yet to appear in the NHL and has very little leverage in this scenario.
Will a change of attitude make it easier for a deal to happen? We'll see when the story develops.
