The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly shaving the roster, as one unrestricted free agent will not be returning.

Ian Cole, who is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, will not be returning to the Vancouver Canucks.

Cole won two cups in a row with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017 and will be a coveted free agent for teams needing defensive depth.

According to NHL Insider Rick Dhaliwal, the Canucks are cutting him loose:

"It looks like he is going to hit the free agent market after some contract talks that couldn't find common ground.."

Not only will Ian Cole be a free agent, but Nikita Zadorov will also be cut loose. Don Sweeney could swoop in and sign Ian Cole to help with the PK.

Not only that, but he will be a great replacement for Matt Grzelcyk, who will be a UFA come July 1st.

Cole's last contract was $3 Million AAV, during the 2023-2024 regular season and could play both LD and RD.

Cole has played 826 NHL games during his career, collected two Stanley Cups, and had 11 points( 2 G, 9 A) in 78 games with a +10.
