Pastrnak scored 47 goals, without a true #1 center, to feed him pucks and despite that the Bruins couldn't outshoot the Panthers in the post-season, a 2nd year in a row loss to one of the toughest teams in the league.
While Montgomery prioritizes quality over quantity shooting, if you're lacking key pieces in the lineup, wouldn't it make sense to shoot as much as possible, you know to keep pressure in the defensive zone?
While trading assets, like Linus Ullmark or Jake DeBrusk, should either player be moved, not only should LD and Center be addressed, but the coaching philosophy should as well.
Montgomery's decisions made little to no sense, when he removed John Beecher, from the circle, the teams best face-off center against the Panthers. They would go onto dominate the Bruins at the face-off dot and of course, that's all she wrote.
It could be argued that Montgomery did an excellent job against the Panthers, coming just one point short of an Atlantic Divison title and would reach the 2nd round of the playoffs.
But the offense would fail to adjust to the Panthers pressures, which exposed a weakness in Montgomery's coaching style.
The Bruins need key pieces to move forward, but another question worth asking is, is Montgomery the right guy for the job?
