Former Bruins defenseman Torey Krug may face serious consequences from president and general manager Doug Armstrong of the St Louis Blues after blocking a trade last year to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Blues and the Flyers had a deal in place that would see Krug head to the Flyers but in the final minutes, Krug decided to not waive his no trade clause and essentially ice the deal. Landing a player of his caliber certainly would have helped the Flyers and the Blues as the Blues were looking to continue their mini retool they were in the midst of doing.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli feels that the Blues may consider buying out Krug as a way to punish him for blocking this trade.

«Never count out GM Doug Armstrong from something spicy, bordering on
vindictive. Armstrong doesn't mess around, and Krug threw a huge wrench into last summer's plans when he (rightfully) blocked a trade to Philadelphia by virtue of his no-trade' clause. You know what no-trade' clauses don't protect against? Buyouts.»

Krug has three years remaining on his deal which holds a cap hit of $6.5 million per season. A buyer would certainly span him between four and six years longer on their cap yet but it would send a clear message to him and to any others of what could happen.

The NHL buyout season is closing in and fans will watch to see if Armstrong decides to make his choice on Krug.
