It is now confirmed for Jonathan Marchessault and the Boston Bruins
The Vegas Golden Knights will have a salary cap casualty in Jonathan Marchessault, who is expected not to return next season.
As the team only has $897, 516.00 in money to use for the 2024-2025 season, they will have to shed players unfortunately.
One of them, is Marchessault, a 40-goal scorer who the Boston Bruins should attempt to sign.
Marchessault, a UFA is due a raise during the 2024-2025 regular season and GM Don Sweeney should swoop in and make it happen.
Since Kelly McCrimmon and company can't afford the top-six winger, the Bruins should take advantage of this lack of oversight, where the Knights are up against the cap every season.
The only question is, what will it cost to bring Marchessault to Boston?
Marchessault scored 69 points( 42 G, 27 A) in 82 games this season with the Vegas Golden Knights and is due a raise and contract with term.
It can be expected that Marchessault will ask for a contract upwards of $6.5 Million AAV, for 6-7 years for his next contract.
«Jonathan Marchesseault is a roughly similar case, but he will cost a lot less than Stamkos. Jo will rightly want a 6-7 year pact around 6.5 million per season. He just scored 42 goals at age 33, a career high.
Marchesseault has what it takes in the shell briefs for the Montreal pot. He would be an incredible leader and inspiration for CH's young attackers and his experience in the playoffs for several seasons would be an extraordinary asset for the Canadian's great project.
Do Gorton & Hughes think like me? If so, they will make a sincere offer to Marchesseault and his advisors on July 1st..." - JiC Lajoie
With the Bruins' salary cap space available being $20 Million, the team could upgrade the top six with Marchessault's presence and still have plenty of cap space to deal with.
This of course means, a serious amount of cap is dedicated to Marchessault but he would help the Bruins achieve their long-term goals, as a Stanley Cup champion with a playoff pedigree, as one of the Knights misfits crew, whose numbers have been dwindling recently.
