After five games in Providence last season, tallying one assist. Bruins prospect Mason Lohrei showed promise playing at Ohio State in his graduating year, turning into a productive two-way defenseman, accumulating 28 assists and 32 points in 40 games.

Now that the Boston Bruins training camp is in full swing it gives head coach Jim Montgomery a chance to see what the prospect pool looks like and how the organization's top prospects are developing.

The 22-year-old defenseman Mason Lohrei has drawn the attention of Jim Montgomery this week.

«Pleasant surprise how he's [Mason Lohrei] been good all three days so far,»
Montgomery told reporters Saturday, Bruins.com's Eric Russo.

Lohrei, who the Bruins drafted in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft, has been skating alongside Brandon Carlo at camp, setting a goal of trying to make it the Bruins roster this year.

He might still be a year or two away from earning a full time spot on thr Bruins' backend, but once Lohrei gets the chance to see NHL ice, he believes he can make an big impact.

«That's kind of my game. That's always been my game,» Lohrei said. «I take a lot of pride in defending and being on the penalty kill and going out there late in games to prevent the other team (from scoring). But obviously, I love all the offensive aspects of the game, too. I'm not saying right away or anything, but I think that's where I want my game to be at eventually at this level.»
