The Boston Bruins organization on this day August 13, 1987 would make a huge signing.

They'd sign long-time Flames starting goalie, Reggie Lemelin after he'd lost the starting goalie position to Mike Vernon in Calgary.

On this day in 1987, the Boston Bruins signed goalie Reggie Lemelin.

With Lemelin in net, the Bruins would beat the Montreal Canadiens in the playoffs during the 1987-1988 season for the first time since the 1943 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Lemelin's play was impressive, with a 4-0 record, a .952 save percentage, and would stop 99 of 104 shots during the series. He would play 5 more seasons in Boston but would not be the same goalie the Bruins had during the '87 season.

He ended his career in the NHL playing 506 games, with 12 shutouts, a 3.47 GAA and a .884 save percentage.
