Heading into this year Trent Frederic had something to prove to the Boston Bruins, but he has yet to do that. The former first-round pick is in his final year of his contract with the Boston Bruins, and is set to become a unrestricted free agent (UFA) this upcoming off-season, and the Bruins have a decision to make.
Players entering a contract year try to have a good season so they can get paid, but Frederic has done everything but have a good start to the year.
In 30 games so far with the Boston Bruins, Trent Frederic has just give goals, along with six assists for 11 points, he currently sits a minus-10 on the season and has 95 hits. Even though the beginning of the year has been slow for Frederic, he has recently started to find a grove and heat up having two goals and four points in his last five games.
Frederic has been a big part of the Boston Bruins top-nine for quite some time now, and the Bruins have a big decision they are going to have to make with him soon. The Bruins are either going to have to sign Frederic, and if nothing comes to fruition before the trade deadline there is a big chance we see him traded.
The only way the Bruins do not trade Frederic is if they truly believe they can sign him to an extension, or else they risk losing him for nothing in the off-season.
It's very possible that the Bruins do not see Frederic as a long-term part of their plans, and if this is the case the Bruins could end up trading him. There has been multiple reports that if Trent Frederic is made available, many playoff teams will be interested in acquiring him.
If the Boston Bruins are going to make the playoffs, keeping Trent Frederic would go a long way, as he is the type of player you want on your team and brings a lot of toughness.
Can you see the Boston Bruins trading Trent Frederic?
