The Boston Bruins originally brought in Joe Sacco as a interim head coach, but Don Sweeney stated that he wants to give Sacco a real shot at the head coaching job before looking for a permenate replacement for Jim Montgomery who was fired by the Bruins. Things are looking good for him as the Boston Bruins are on a role since he took over.
Coming into the year, the Bruins felt they had a better team than last year, and that they were going to be more competitive this year but that wasn't the case at all for the team so far.
Through the first 20 games of the year, the Bruins had just eight wins, and the games they lost were some pretty embarrassing ones including a 8-2 loss to the Hurricanes, 7-2 loss to the Stars, and they even lost 5-1 to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The loss to the Blue Jackets was the final straw and Montgomery was fired.
Since Joe Sacco has taken over the Boston Bruins have improved in many areas except for one, which has been a big part in reasons the Bruins can't win some games, and that's the power play.
The Boston Bruins are currently ranked second last in power play percentage with 12%. But on the other hand, the Bruins have improved their penalty kill, and sit first in the league with a 95% penalty kill since Sacco took over.
There is still some things the Bruins need to improve on, but since Sacco ended up taking over, the Bruins have improved all around, and are currently riding a four game win streak and have a record of 7-2-0.
