The Boston Bruins may have made a huge mistake sending Matthew Poitrasback to the AHL. The prospect is at nearly a point-per-game in Providence.

The team needs offense, and they sent an offensive piece back to the AHL on November 11th, 2024. Since then Poitras has scored at almost a point-per-game clip in Providence.

In 11 games played with P-Bruins, the forward has scored 10 points( 3 G, 7 A) in the AHL. He hasn't looked back once the Bruins sent him down, and has played with a purpose.

While Jim Montgomery would try and take the sting out of the move, it appears Poitras is making Don Sweeney look bad.

«Players like David Krejci and Brad Marchand spent a year and a half in the minors. Don't look at this as a negative, although it's hard not to when you're the person,» Montgomery said. «It's an opportunity to go play and get your game back.»

«He's a huge part of our future,» he said. «We know that. We're excited to watch his development to come back.»

While it doesn't take much for that to happen, as Sweeney notoriously fouled up the offseason, it makes you question the Bruins' asset management.

Montgomery would state they had no backup plans for him:

The Bruins didn't make a corresponding move to call up a replacement leaving them with 18 active skaters. Montgomery wasn't sure if or when a move was coming.

«I don't think we have a definitive plan right now,» he said.

While they run a grinder on the top-six, when you need a goal-scorer, well it just doesn't make sense.

While the Bruins have turned their fortunes around with the immediate hire of Joe Sacco, it's concerning to see the lineup remain status quo at this point.

Should the Bruins call up Matthew Poitras?
