Former Boston Bruins defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk has decided after 14 years in the NHL to retire.

Kevin Shattenkirk last suited up for the Boston Bruins during the 2032-204 season, scoring 24 points( 6 G, 18 A).

He'd play 61 games with the Bruins and would play in six Stanley Cup playoffs games. But that would be the last time he'd see NHL ice, as rumors swirled at the start of the season he would sign with a team in the Western Conference of the NHL.

"After 14 amazing years in the National Hockey League, I have decided to retire," Shattenkirk said in a statement on social media. "I never knew hockey would take me this far. This game has had a dramatic impact in developing me into the man I am today."

Shattenkirk started his career in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche as a 14th overall pick in the 2007 Draft. He'd play 952 games split between the Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, Anaheim Ducks and Tampa Bay Lightning.

He'd win a cup in 2020 with the Lightning and would represent the United States in the 2014 Sochi Olympics, and the 2011 IIHF Tournaments

"I can proudly say that I have accomplished most of my career goals," Shattenkirk said. "I scored big goals, including a Stanley Cup Final overtime goal, played in All-Star games, represented my country in the Olympics, and won a Stanley Cup! What makes me even prouder when I reflect back on my career are the countless friendships that I have made along the way. Thank you to all my teammates, it was an honor to play with all of you."

Shattenkirk would fall short of another Stanley Cup run, as it was reported the Edmonton Oilers didn't offer him a contract, but another Western Conference team did.

Instead of going cup hunting with another team this season, he opted to call it a career and Shattenkirk sounds satisfied with all that he accomplished in the league.

The former Bruins defenseman ends his career scoring 484 points( 103 G, 381 A) and 91 career playoff games played in the NHL scoring 48 points( 8 G, 40 A).
