Boston Bruins reportedly set to trade a goaltender at the NHL trade deadline
The Boston Bruins traded away Vezina Trophy-winning goalie Linus Ullmark to the Senators for Joonas Korpisalo, did the Senators win the trade?
It appears as if they did, as they're just above the Bruins in the Atlantic Division, and got rid of Korpisalo this offseason.
The Bruins are feeling the reverberations of the loss of Ullmark throughout the lineup, and now disgruntled Bruins fans are calling for Korpisalo to be traded.
With the trade deadline looming, and a possible retool happening, you should see what you can move and try to maximize the return.
With the quality of play in Providence, maybe it's time to give goaltender Michael DiPietro a look if Joonas Korpisalo isn't getting the job done.
It all depends on whether or not the Bruins can find a buyer for Korpisalo, and considering halfway decent goalies are hard to find, Sweeney should be able to find a suitor.
DiPietro has more than proved his worth in the AHL this season with the Providence Bruins, as he's played a total of 29 games, with a record of 18-7-4, with a 2.00 GAA, and a .928 save percentage.
Compare that to Korpisalo who has failed to rebound the play that made him a solid backup in Columbus with a record of 9-6-2, 2.86, and a .892 save percentage.
The Bruins could use a trade with Korpisalo to clean up the cap structure and begin a youth movement that's sorely needed in an aging Bruins lineup.
Of course, moving Korpisalo could be one of many moves this season, but this should be one of Sweeney's priorities if the team is to become the winners they used to be in the Atlantic.
