Nick Foligno speaks out on being scratched for game 7
Following the Florida Panthers' leveling the series at three games, the Boston Bruins' remarkable 135 point season derailed, prompting a frantic effort to secure victory and sustain their historic performance.
In light of this, Head Coach Jim Montgomery determined that excluding seasoned player Nick Foligno from the lineup would yield the best results, resulting in Foligno's omission from the Bruins' final game of the season.
Despite being an integral part of the Bruins' blue collar hockey identity, the 35-year-old veteran bottom six player struggled to match the Panthers' tempo during the first round.
When questioned about being scratched in game 7, Foligno expressed his discontent candidly. In an honest and forthright statement, Foligno revealed his dissatisfaction and vowed to use that experience as motivation to never find himself in a similar situation again.
Considering the Bruins' limited salary cap space, it seemed unlikely that Foligno would return to the team. However, the game 7 incident may have offered Foligno a fresh perspective on his NHL career.
If he couldn't contribute to contending teams in critical games, perhaps he could serve as a mentor and leader for a young rebuilding team such as the Chicago Blackhawks. On July 1st of this year, Foligno inked a one-year, $4M contract with the Blackhawks.
