The Boston Bruins could be facing a significant defensive challenge heading into their next game. In their recent matchup against the Florida Panthers, the Bruins were already down one defenseman when Matt Grzelcyk suffered an upper-body injury halfway through the first period. Coach Jim Montgomery confirmed that Grzelcyk would be sidelined for several weeks.

To compound their woes, Grzelcyk's defensive partner, Charlie McAvoy, left the game as well, but this departure was of his own making. In the third period, McAvoy delivered a hit to Oliver Ekman-Larsson, resulting in a match penalty for an illegal check to the head.
McAvoy, who has been a standout defenseman for the Bruins, now faces potential further punishment from the Department of Player Safety. If this occurs, the Bruins could find themselves down two defensemen in their upcoming game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, as they currently lack additional defensive reinforcements.
