At the tender age of 18, David Pastrnak found his way into the Boston Bruins' roster after being drafted in the first round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

For the past nine years, Pastrnak has shared the ice with the legendary Patrice Bergeron.

When Bergeron announced his retirement, the 27-year-old forward expressed his heartfelt emotions and gratitude towards his captain and longtime friend through the Bruins' social media account.

"Bergy's just an unbelievable human being... it's been a pleasure to learn from him. It's not always about the hockey but about the humanity as well. He's a big part of a lot of guys growing up and being good people," Pastrnak sincerely shared.

The young forward couldn't thank Bergeron enough for the invaluable support and guidance he received both on and off the ice. Their friendship extended beyond the game, making Bergeron a true mentor and confidant.

With Bergeron's absence, Pastrnak now faces a pivotal moment in his career. Armed with an eight-year, $90 million contract extension, the Bruins will look to him to step into a leadership role on and off the ice.

It wouldn't be surprising if he becomes a strong candidate for the next captain of the Black and Gold.

As the roster undergoes changes, Pastrnak is likely to be teamed up with Pavel Zacha as they showed great chemistry during last season's stretch when David Krejci was sidelined.

The Bruins will rely on Pastrnak's skills and leadership to fill the void left by Bergeron's retirement and make a lasting impact in the upcoming season.
