The Boston Bruins record to start the 2024-2025 season has been dismal, as the team has a 4-6-1 record.

The fourth line is the production line for the team, which is counterintuitive by any means for an NHL club.

Of course, you want production on your fourth line, but it's been anemic on the first two. A dire warning for someone like Montgomery who had a great run in his first two seasons with the Bruins.

His first run with the Bruins saw him secure a President's Trophy in 2022-2023, with the best record in the league.

But they'd be unceremoniously knocked out of the 2nd round of the playoffs by the Florida Panthers.

Fast forward to 2023-2024, the Bruins went to the playoffs and were again knocked out of contention by the Panthers. A rivalry is born, and Montgomery couldn't solve the puzzle of the Maurice-led Cats.

NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 590 discussing the Bruins situation with Matt Marchese, and Michael Futa about Montgomery's situation.

The Bruins will have to make a major decision whether they fire him now, or choose not to renew his contract at the end of the season.

It's difficult to tell how the Bruins will react to the 6 of the last 11 games being losses. Has Montgomery lost the room? Are the Bruins ready to give Montgomery a longer leash to figure it out?

It remains to be seen whether he will be fired soon, but the signs aren't looking good.

The Bruins' top producers at the moment are David Pastrnak with 9 points( 5 G, 4 A), Mark Kastelic with 7 points( 3 G, 4 A) and Cole Koepke with 7 points( 3 G, 4 A).

Which sounds bonkers, compared to last season.

Mike Millbury's Statement

Mike Millbury shared his opinion of Montgomery's current situation too:

«The last two years, they played some pretty damn good hockey for a long time. I may have issues with his approach and that sort of thing, but I think it would be unfair right now,» Milbury said. «I think this is on personnel more than the coach. But what he's doing now, getting tougher and meaner and nastier, adapting to the situation, is difficult for players who have been there a while, when your coach changes his stripes. It's a tough pill to swallow for some of the veteran players, but I give him credit for trying. I don't think this is on him. I think this is on personnel.»

It sounds like the opinions are mixed wherever you go, but fans are fed up, and Bruins management is mum.

Things don't look good for Monty.
