A forward who the Boston Bruins claimed off of waivers from the Ottawa Senators has announced his retirement today.

The Latvian-born forward, Kaspars Daugavins who was playing with Michalovce Dukla HC announced his retirement.

Before Daugavins retirement he was still producing above point-per-game rate, scoring 20 points( 6 G, 14 A) in 19 games.

This was a follow-up to his 54 points(11 G, 43 A) with the Slovak Extraliga club last year. Despite his reliable production for the Slovak club, he's hanging up his skates.

He was originally claimed off of waivers from the Ottawa Senators by the Boston Bruins in 2012-2013.

Despite having a shot in the original six lineup, he'd only produce 1 point in 6 games. He'd play six playoff games with the Bruins and would fail to register a point.

Following the 2012-2013 season's end, the Latvian native would finish the last 12 seasons of his career overseas.

«Today, in the early hours of the morning, we learned the news that shocked everyone in the HK Dukla Michalovce organization,» the club's announcement read. «We wish Daugi all the best in his personal life. Daugi, thank you!»

He'd play in various leagues such as the Swiss National League, DEL, KHL, and Slovak Extraliiga.

Daugavins didn't end his career on a low note, however, as in 2023 he helped Team Latvia earn a Bronze at age 36.

His performance earned him the compliments of his Latvian teammates which included former NHLer Rudolf Balcers:

«Kaspars, you know, he's seen a lot,» Rudolfs Balcers said after that win over Switzerland. «He's played a lot of hockey in his years and he knows the game and how to step up in the big moments. I think that leadership he brings to the group is unreal for us.»

His IIHF career seems to miss the headlines, but was responsible for capturing the team's first medal in Tampere, Finland defeating the United States.

Enjoy your retirement, Kaspars!
