Kevin Shattenkirk, a former Boston Bruins defenseman may be set to call it a career in the NHL and retire after getting just one contract offer and rejecting it.

It's looking like ex-Boston Bruins veteran defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk is done with the NHL after he turned down an offer to sign with a Canadian team.

Larry Brooks, a reporter from the New York Rangers reported this.

Earlier on Sunday, Brooks released an article regarding the former New York Rangers defenseman stating that his career in the NHL is more than likely over. During his article he revealed that a Western Canadian team offered him a contract, and name dropped the Flames, Canucks, and Oilers as potential teams.

"Slap Shots has learned from a trusted source that the one-time Blueshirts No. 22 rejected an offer from a western Canadian team - Edmonton, Calgary or Vancouver - within the past two weeks."

There have been multiple reports about the Oilers being in conversations regarding a defenseman, and there is belief that they were the team to off a contract. In just a couple of months, the veteran defenseman will be turning 36-years-old in a few months, and due to not getting a contract, it's looking like he is going to retire.

Kevin Shattenkirk, who was a first round draft pick has appeared in 952 NHL games with multiple different clubs.

A big chunk of his career was spent with the St. Louis Blues. He played a total of 425 games with the Blues, and had 29 goals, 258 points in those games.

In his whole career Shattenkirk had a total of 103 goals, with 484 points in 952 career NHL games. Shattenkirk won his first Stanley Cup Championship back with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020.

It's not 100% that Kevin Shattenkirk decides to retire, as he could still earn a contract or sign overseas.

Stay tuned for any further developments regarding Kevin Shattenkirk and if he decides to retire or not.
