Ex-Boston Bruins Player Makes Shocking Allegations On Former NHL Player
Sergei Kostitsyn's time with the Montreal Canadiens was marked by controversy and distractions, both on and off the ice, during his stint from 2007 to 2010. Notably linked to an organized crime figure in Montreal in 2009, Kostitsyn's reputation as a teammate was also tarnished.
Former Canadiens defenseman Hal Gill, speaking on The Spittin Chiclets podcast, did not mince words about Kostitsyn, describing him as a "horrible person in Montreal" and a "bad teammate." Gill expressed his relief when Kostitsyn was traded to Nashville in 2010.
However, a surprising turn of events unfolded when Gill, himself traded to the Predators less than two years later, found Kostitsyn transformed upon their reunion. The once problematic teammate had become amicable and dedicated to his game.
"He comes up to me: Hello! How are you? How are you doing?"
Gill recalled. Intrigued by the drastic change, Gill sought answers from Predators head coach Barry Trotz, discovering that Trotz had invested time and effort in connecting with Kostitsyn.
Trotz would routinely share morning cereal sessions with Kostitsyn, fostering a relationship that proved pivotal. Kostitsyn went on to showcase his best performances in the NHL during his time in Nashville, tallying seasons of 50 and 43 points from 2010 to 2012.
While Kostitsyn's tenure with the Canadiens may be remembered for the wrong reasons, his transformative journey in Nashville highlights the impact of mentorship and a conducive team environment on a player's career.
