It looks like, the Maple Leafs will have to look to the past to shore up their bottom-six, as Nick Robertson wants to get an actual opportunity to play on NHL ice.
One of those options could be former Boston Bruins, and once Toronto Maple Leaf, James Van Riemsdyk.
While JVR is no longer the 36-goal scoring forward during his time with the Maple Leafs, once seen in 2017-2018 he still has hockey left in him to play.
He could fit into the Leafs' bottom six, as he was a regular contributor to the Bruins offense, scoring 38 points(11 G, 27 A) in 71 games with the rival Bruins in 2023-20254.
He would of course, score a goal against the Maple Leafs in the 1st round of the 2023-2024 playoffs and then would go scoreless for 11 post-season games.
Van Riemsdyk came off a decent year with the Bruins, proving he still has what it takes to be in the NHL, and provides a leadership presence, and isn't afraid to get int dirty areas, like the front of the net.
He could also be an option for the Leafs power-play as well, should things go south with Nick Robertson.
