Former Bruins Legend Makes A Massive Announcement
Hockey icon Jaromir Jagr faced uncertainty about playing last season but suited up for his Czech club, the Kladno Knights, due to a team illness in December.
In 26 games last season, the 51-year-old Jagr impressed, tallying 14 points (five goals, nine assists) with 16 penalty minutes and an even rating. And if you thought Jagr would retire, think again.
On Saturday, Jagr took to his Instagram to announce his return for the 2023-24 campaign with Kladno, marking his astonishing 36th season in professional hockey.
In his Instagram post, Jagr expressed his excitement for the new season and the memories of playing for Kladno over the past 35 years. He shared,
"Hi ⭐️. Another hockey season has begun. Now I read that I played for Kladno in the extra league for the first time 35 years ago. It's been a while. But the nervousness, the anticipation before the start... It's still the same. At home at the ČEZ stadium, we play for the first time tomorrow against the strong Pardubice. I'm looking forward to hockey and the pre-match program that @kauflandcesko and I have prepared. Among other things, Olga Lounová will perform before the match. He has a nice song about being an eternal optimist. I think we all need a bit of optimism for the season. I believe it will be better than the previous one. And what about you? How are you looking forward to hockey?" Jagr said.
Jagr's dedication to the sport remains unwavering, even at his age. He has acknowledged that his continued play is driven by the responsibility he feels toward his club's financial stability, especially in terms of sponsorship money.
Kladno, featuring not only Jaromir Jagr but also former Montreal Canadiens forward Tomas Plekanec, is set to kick off their 2023-24 regular season against HC Dynamo Pardubice in what promises to be an exciting matchup.
