Today the NHL confirmed the passing of long time NHL official Danny McCourt who passed away at the age of 70 following an announcement.
Danny McCourt served as a linesman in the National Hockey League from 1979 up until 2004 when he would hang up the skates. He would then go on to be the NHL's Officiating Manager in the Scouting and Development Department from 2005-2022 when he would officially call it a career.
From 2022 up until his passing, McCourt served as a consultant to Officiating Director Stephen Walkom.
It's pretty clear that McCourt lived and breathed hockey, and he has definitely earned the respect of everyone in the hockey community.
Following his retirement from officiating on the ice in 2004, McCourt relived his most memorable moment in his officiating career when he ended up dropping the puck for a season opening game which featured Wayne Gretzky and his own brother Dale McCourt.
Dale would end up winning the faceoff and Danny did not stop smiling the entire game.
McCourt always had a goal of making it to the National Hockey League, and he didn't let anything stop him.
McCourt was given the opportunity to make his dreams come true, and never looked back. He would end up making the most of it and would be an official in over 1600 NHL games.
Our condolences are with the McCourt family, and friends during this tough time.
May he Rest in Peace.
