It's hard to watch, but what's truly remarkable is that the damage isn't worse. Just two days after taking a nasty skate blade to the face, Jakub Lauko courageously shared images of his injuries. Warning, the pictures are quite graphic.
Now, take a look at Lauko's eye's current condition. It's entirely swollen shut, with stitches incredibly close to his actual eyeball. According to Boston coach Jim Montgomery, the skate blade didn't touch the eyeball, but it came uncomfortably close.
As for recovery, it's still uncertain. There's a fracture in the bone around the eye, and doctors need at least a week for the swelling to go down before they can provide a proper prognosis. It's important to note that Lauko had played in 29 NHL games at the time of the injury.
