Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery Has addressed his feelings on the current contract dispute between Bruins starting goaltender Jeremy Swayman and management.
Montgomery who was at Bruins fan fest this weekend explained to reporters that he thinks his goaltender will be ready to go for training camp and will be under contract.
I saw Jeremy (Thursday) at Ray Bourque's golf tournament," Montgomery told reporters in Lewiston, Maine, per team-provided video. "Him and I had a great conversation about leading, needing to become a leader as part of the Bruins.
I don't have anything to do with the contract situation. That's not part of my job detail. My job is my connection with the players and how we're gonna be good this year. And I have no doubt Jeremy Swayman will be a Bruin at the start of camp. We'll be ready to go."
Many Bruins fans and even some pundits in the NHL feel that this dispute has gone longer than expected and with the Bruins trading their other tandem goaltender in Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a package that included goaltender Joonas Korpisalo that the Bruins may have made a mistake.
Korpisalo is more than capable of manning the net as he has been a starting goaltender with Columbus for several seasons. General manager Don Sweeney would certainly like to get this job done and have his net secure as training camp is slated to begin on September 18th.
The Bruins currently have $8.6 million in cap space but that cannot be used as this dispute continues to go on which will prevent the team from upgrading other parts of their roster that could use new faces.
