It's been quite some time since Jaromir Jagr has returned to the NHL, of which we got to see last season. The Penguins would retire his jersey in an epic ceremony.

But duty calls and he would return to the Czech Extraliga to play for the team he owns, HC Kladno at age 52. As one of the oldest professional hockey players, injuries occur.

He unfortunately, has torn his hamstring which could be an injury that puts him out for six-weeks, however, due to his age it could be longer.

"I have something to tell you," Jagr announced. "I know you're asking why I'm not playing in any pre-season games. Unfortunately, I was injured. I know that you supported me a lot and because of you I will not give up and I am training anyway. Back as soon as possible. Thank you for your support."

He discussed a meeting he had with team trainer Pavel Kolář and explained he might've went too hard on the training itself.

"When I talked to the physiotherapist Pavel Kolář about the fact that I would like to properly train, he warned me not to do anything that my body is not used to," he said. "Of course, I didn't listen to him... I went for a run. Not the sprints I used to do uphill, but normally straight. But I put weights on my ankles and tore my hamstring.

That was about five days ago. Pavel said it would be three to six weeks. We'll see how it heals.

The worst part is that I'm mad at myself. I was preparing, I dropped a lot (of weight) and felt pretty good on the ice. Now it has stopped again, so I'll have to start from the beginning.

But I'm not one to screw it up when I've put so much into it. The very next day I went to do things that didn't hurt. However, skating is very important and I won't be on the ice for three to six weeks. Maybe it won't be that long, we'll see. When I walk, it doesn't hurt.

I'm curious what Pavel will say to me when we meet again."

Jagr has only played 15 games in 2023-2024 scoring only 4 assists.

Jagr's 1,921 total points in the NHL, are the most by any player born in Europe in league history. He is ranked 2nd in overall points in Pittsburgh Penguins history books behind Mario Lemieux and had recently been honored by the Penguins who retired and hung his #68 in the rafters at PPG Paints Arena.
