While he hasn't faced a full NHL lineup yet, Poitras is making a strong case to be a top-two center.
Coach Jim Montgomery praised Poitras for his poise and smart plays in a recent preseason game.
With the departures of key players like David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron, Poitras could be a contender for the No. 2 center position, possibly playing between Brad Marchand and Jake DeBrusk, who are known for their offensive abilities.
However, it's not a done deal for Poitras, as he can play up to nine NHL games this season before using his entry-level contract. If he's not quite ready, he may return to the OHL's Guelph Storm.
