Joe Sacco Furious, Calls Out The Boston Bruins Following Ugly 7-2 Loss To The Buffalo Sabres
The Bruins looked like they may have hit a turning spot in their season, after back-to-back wins agains two playoff teams, beating the Colorado Avalanche, and Ottawa Senators.
But just like any other time this year, the Bruins give you hope by playing their best games, and then turn around and absolutely blow it against one of the worst teams in the league.
After a 7-2 blowout loss to the Buffalo Sabres, interim head coach Joe Sacco did not hold back, and called out his team, and who could blame him?
«Just the way we managed the game tonight. I didn't like the way we managed it,» Sacco said. «You're going to make mistakes in hockey that happen in the course of a game, but it's how we respond right after those mistakes.
«I felt like tonight, be it turnovers in the offensive zone and then not coming back into our D zone sorting out our coverage, some poor line changes. Obviously, not a good response.
A couple of goals that we scored, they come out, and they respond right away. We have to be better than that, that next shift. So, I would say game management was the most disappointing thing here tonight.»
Things weren't looking bad for the Bruins at the beginning of the game when Mason Lohrei opened the scoring for the Bruins in the first period, but things quickly went downhill after that.
Not even a minute after scoring the opening goal, Tage Thompson got one back for the Buffalo Sabres, and would go on to take a 4-1 lead before the Bruins got one back, but after that it was all Sabres.
Head coach Joe Sacco expects more from his players
«You have to respect your opponent, especially offensively,» Sacco said. «They have a good blue line, very mobile. They have some dangerous forwards, as we saw here tonight. We just weren't good enough.
«I was looking for a physical pushback after they scored three, four in a row there. Physical means playing hard on the puck, playing hard without the puck. I think it's both. We weren't good enough in those areas tonight on the puck or away from the puck.»
At the end of the day, the Bruins are not a contender this year, and making the playoffs just to be eliminated first-round would not make a difference. They should commit to doing a re-tool at the NHL trade deadline and try to get better come next year.
