A recent report Has suggested that the rise of Bruins defenseman Mason Lohrei And has cemented himself as a starting defenseman may lead to teams calling general manager Don Sweeney regarding Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy.

This idea has been floated since the Bruins are during a potential retool or even rebuild that has been mentioned for the last two years. McAvoy who holds a cap hit of $9.5 million per season is entering his third year of an 8-year $76 million deal. His no movement clause will kick in after July 1st which gives Sweeney a chance to contact teams to see if there were any takers on his deal.

Lohrei has shown great promise and will be a fixture on the Bruins blue line next season. A 23-year-old who was selected in 2020 by the Bruins, second round, 58th overall play 41 games for the team scoring four goals with 9 assists and 13 points and had 16 minutes and 57 seconds of average ice time.

McAvoy would certainly attract many teams and could bring a large return to the Bruins as they look to open a new window with David Pastrnak, Jeremy Swayman and Brad Marchand. The Bruins do not hold a draft pick till the fourth round of this year and with the likelihood of Linus Ullmark being traded in the next couple of weeks could certainly bolster their draft hopes.

It will come down on weather the Bruins feel they have a chance to win next year or will it be time to start the rebuild that they have thought of? It's an interesting idea but we will wait and see what Sweeney has in store for the team.
