Matthew Tkachuk took over the Stanley Cup Finals, seen as the "bad guy" by Boston Bruins and hockey fans alike.
The underdog Florida Panthers who barely clawed their way into a playoff spot defeated the Bruins in seven games in the first round of the playoffs, in an improbable fashion a short playoff stint crushed the Bruins' historic season.
Tkachuk played a big role in the upset and throughout Florida's run, including an assist on the goal that closed out the Bruins in Game 7.
Now that a couple of months have gone by, things have quieted down. However, with the start of the regular season just around the corner, a newfound rivalry has caught fire.
ESPN's Kristen Shilton and Greg Wyshynski spoke with NHL star players in Las Vegas during the NHL media tour last week, ahead of training camp and Tkachuk was quick to start things back up after he was asked what team he was most excited to watch this season:
«I'm excited to see what Boston does after their season last year, how they follow that one up.»
Now you can either take this as a shot to the Bruins or Tkachuk simply saying he is excited to see what the black and gold can do; knowing the Tkachuk family, it was most definitely a light shot at both the organization and its fans.
