In 2011 the Boston Bruins went on a miraculous playoff run, truly thanks to their goaltender.
On May 23, 2011. Bruins netminder Tim Thomas, stopped 33/34 shots in a Boston Bruins (3-1) win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals to give the Bruins a (3-2) series lead. The series would ultimately go to seven games, but the Bruins shut them down in game seven. Advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals, a Final that everyone remembers.
What a memorable save from Tim Thomas, a big diving stick save to keep the Bruins lead at one with just under 11 minutes left in the third period.
Off that momentum, Tim Thomas carried the Bruins to the Finals, as they beat the Vancouver Canucks in game seven 4-0. Tim Thomas held 1.98 GAA with a .940 SV% earning the Vezina Trophy, which is given to the MVP of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Of course everyone remembers the aftermath of the Bruins hoisting the cup. The city of Vancouver was completely flipped on June 15, as pandemonium ensued. Vancouver was literally on fire, thanks to Canucks fans who started to riot and caused havoc.
