Milan Lucic knows what his role is with the Bruins
Milan Lucic, known for his physicality and unwavering toughness, has always been a fan favorite among Boston Bruins supporters.
In a recent episode of "Dropping the Gloves," Lucic, a seasoned veteran with 16 years of experience, was asked by former NHL enforcer John Scott if he still believed in his ability to engage in fights on the ice.
Without hesitation, Lucic responded,
"I do. That's part of who I am. I've always enjoyed it. I've always relished that aspect of the game.
Boston fans wouldn't appreciate it if I didn't bring that element. I just have to stay true to myself, and that includes embracing that side of my game."
Throughout his career, Lucic has never been one to shy away from a confrontation or a bone-crushing hit. Scott even posed a hypothetical scenario, questioning how Lucic would handle Connor Bedard, the overall No. 1 pick, charging towards him in open ice during Game 1 of the NHL season.
Lucic's response was resolute: "You've got to run him over."
Within the Bruins' locker room, Lucic eagerly anticipates playing alongside one of the team's current tough guys, Trent Frederic. Having closely followed the Bruins last season, Lucic praised Frederic's game, recalling a standout performance against the Los Angeles Kings.
After engaging in a spirited bout with Brendan Lemieux, Frederic proceeded to score two crucial goals, including the game-winner.
"He ended up being a significant factor in their victory over the Kings that night," Lucic expressed with excitement. «That's why I'm thrilled to have a teammate like him. He brings a spark to the game, exudes energy, and is an entertaining player to watch."
Prior to signing his one-year contract on the first day of free agency, Lucic engaged in a conversation with Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney, during which they discussed his role as a leader for younger players like Frederic.
"While I haven't personally spoken to him yet, I always look forward to being teammates with players like him," Lucic acknowledged. "For him, it's about consistently bringing that style of play night after night. If there's any way I can assist him, teach him, or inspire him to bring out his best, that's something I eagerly anticipate."
