He told reporters in typical Zadorov fashion that it was an upside down 16 which led to the reason for the number change. He also mentioned that the number was not an option for him as #16 was retired from former Boston Bruins Rick Middleton.
During his brief stint with the Vancouver Canucks, he also wore the number 91 due to the same reasons and he also mentioned playing for an original six team would make his number choice more difficult. Some even joked that he stole Marc Savard's number as he also wore 91 during his time with the team.
Zadorov was one of the prized signings by general manager Don Sweeney as he looked to upgrade his defence. The 29-year-old defenseman who stands at six foot six 235 lbs brings an intimidating factor with strong physical play which will give the opponents fits.
He signed a six-year $30 million contract which holds a cap hit of $5,000,000 throughout the entire time and he also manage to get a one year no movement clause which will begin in 2024-2025.
The Bruins have signed 21 players thus far for next season and still hold an $8.6 million cap hit which is likely set aside for goaltender Jeremy Swayman. But with contracts talks stalled, Sweeney may also look to upgrade other areas especially his defence as he still holds some money available.
