A massive takeaway from the Boston Bruins tough overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

At the start of the West Coast trip for the Boston Bruins, things were not looking good for the Bruins. Their first two games were blowouts to the Winnipeg Jets, and Seattle Kraken being outscored 13-2.

But the Bruins found their footing in Vancouver against the Canucks when they played one of their best games of the year beating the Canucks 5-1. Then the Bruins showed resilience in Calgary after pulling off a comeback win being down 3-1 entering the third period. They would go on to win 4-3 in overtime.

In Edmonton, the Bruins had a chance to finish off the road trip strong and have a 3-2-0 record, but they couldn't hold onto their two-goal lead they had and ended up losing to the Oilers in overtime 3-2.

After losing to the Oilers, the Bruins now hold a record of 17-13-4, but the Bruins completely turned their road trip around after the disastrous start to it, and were able to get an extra point in the game giving them a 2-2-1 record on their West Coast trip.

The Bruins shut down the Oilers top players for a good chunk of the game, and in the first 10 minutes, the Bruins only allowed one shot on goal as they were dominating the play.

As the game went on, the Oilers took advantage of some cracks in the Bruins defence, and Zach Hyman scored a cheesy goal on Jeremy Swayman, one he would definitely want back. The Bruins gave the Oilers a lot of good scoring chances in the final period, and Connor McDavid was able to bury the tying goal with just 2:21 left in the third period.

Overtime didn't last long as the Oilers capitalized on a chance just 1:04 into overtime with Mattias Ekholm scoring the game winning goal.

The Bruins defence was a bit sloppy towards the end of the game, but has been a strong point for the Bruins since Joe Sacco took over for Jim Montgomery. Entering Thursday nights game the Bruins ranked ninth in the NHL in goals allowed while under Joe Sacco, and when Jim Montgomery was head coach the Bruins were ranked 24th.

Unfortunately the Bruins only got one point in their last game of the road trip, but you'll take that any day over getting no points.
