The Boston Bruins shouldn't have an issue trading Brad Marchand should the need arise, as two more NHL teams have joined the fold of interested parties.
The New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals are two of the latest teams who have joined the ranks of those interested in Brad Marchand.
Both have been considered Stanley Cup contenders this season and could use an injection of talent from the Bruins.
Whether that'd be from Trent Frederic or Brad Marchand. However, it seems their eyes are set on Marchand.
Could GM Don Sweeney find it feasible to move the Bruins Captain at this point in time?
«Let's just say he's not giving an immediate 'No!' or 'Next!' when they ask what it would take to get Marchand,» one NHL executive source said. «He's making it clear their first choice is to sign him, but he's not ruling out anything, and if he did, he wouldn't be doing his job. It's a tough spot for [Sweeney] for sure, but this is the reality of where the team and player are right now.»
However, according to another NHL Executive, Marchand's path with the Bruins remains opaque as nothing has been confirmed as far as a deal goes.
The team could still end up moving him.
This is despite the fact, that Marchand maintains that he wants to remain in a spoked-B, the only NHL jersey he's worn since he arrived in 2009-2010.
Back on Feb. 11, as the Four Nations Face-Off was getting set to begin in Montreal, RG reported that the Avalanche, the Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild, and Dallas Stars were all believed to be expressing interest in Marchand, and this same source above claims two more teams have been poking around on the 2011 Stanley Cup champion.
«New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals are in there, too,» the source said.
But sources have linked the Washington Capitals, and New Jersey Devils to the Bruins captain in the latest rumors.
Should Don Sweeney tap into the Captain's value to make a move by the March trade deadline? Or will he wait until July to sign the Captain?
