There were many indications that Crosby had only one team in mind which was the Pittsburgh Penguins which has been his home for his entire career. With his 12-year deal coming to an end this season, the number 87 always must be in his contract and many pundits across the league felt it would be a much higher cap hit than it was.
But it's clear that he is wanting to help the Penguins achieve a lower cap hit so they can acquire more players. Does this mean that Brad Marchand should take a deal that's worth 6.3 million over the next several years?
It's hard to say if he would go down that road and it would also depend on how close the Bruins are to a Stanley Cup. The Bruins organization have been struggling with contracts these days especially with their goaltender Jeremy Swayman and Marchand would need to take a significant haircut on his next salary to be at 6.3 million.
Having become captain of the team and a prolific goal scorer and point producer for this organization it's likely he will have a cap hit higher than 6.3 million per season. It's just a matter of what the Jacobs family, general manager Don Sweeney and Marchand can negotiate.
