The Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils aren't regular trading partners, at least not since the deal which sent Pavel Zacha to Boston, and Erik Haula to New Jersey.
That deal was finalized on July 13th, 2022 and both players have been regular contributors to their team, up until recently. Pavel Zacha has taken a step back this season, the same can't be said about Haula.
With the Bruins organization seeking to improve their lineup, and their cache of assets, could they become trade partners with the Devils once again?
Under Sheldon Keefe, they look like the successful team Lindy Ruff was supposed to deliver last season. And now, as potential buyers once the trade deadline rolls around, they could ask around about power-forward Trent Frederic.
Frederic could use a fresh start in the NHL, as he's yet to return to the production that saw him post 40 points( 18 G, 22 A) in 82 games with the Bruins last season.
He could add secondary scoring to the Devils' lineup, while the Bruins could ultimately net a good prospect or NHLer and assets to flip at the deadline for a winning piece.
This season he's on pace for only 26 points, not something you'd want to see as someone who has come off a career year.
One of the cons of trading Frederic is they would lose the toughness in the top-nine, on a team that only has someone like Nikita Zadarov whose not afraid of dropping the gloves.
While the Bruins could clear $2.3 Million in cap space, if GM Don Sweeney could make a deal with the Devils, literally.
The only question is, do you want to help a team who doesn't need it and whom you could hypothetically face in the post-season, should Joe Sacco continue to correct course for the Bruins?
Would you trade Trent Frederic to the Devils?
