Sunday night brought a truly strange scene with the Ottawa Senators' goaltenders, and it's still unclear exactly what happened.
During the game against the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena, the Senators made several unexpected goalie switches in the second period, leaving fans puzzled. It all started when starting goalie Anton Forsberg left the ice due to a skate blade issue, with Linus Ullmark stepping in to cover. Normally, a brief swap like that isn't unusual, but what followed certainly was.
After a quick repair, Forsberg returned, marking the second swap of the night. However, he only lasted about a minute before heading back to the bench, bringing Ullmark back in for yet another switch. But even that wasn't the end - just moments later, the Senators pulled Ullmark, sending Forsberg back out once again. This marked the fourth goalie change in a single period.
The unexpected pattern left NHL insiders, including Elliotte Friedman, scratching their heads, and the broadcast crew couldn't help but chuckle as they recapped the constant back-and-forth.
This string of goalie swaps was like nothing seen before and is certainly not something fans are likely to see again anytime soon - or, at least, not something they hope to.
