Tyler Bertuzzi was ultimately a hyped top-six winger who according to some was destined to fix the Leaf's woes. During his first season as a Toronto Maple Leaf, he was stuck with John Tavares and utilized in a top-six role.
His game would fortunately rebound, after being placed on a line with Auston Matthews and Max Domi. With the possibility of the Leafs wanting to run it back with the trio, there is one final boss left: Bertuzzi's agent.
According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, on July 1st Tyler Bertuzzi could test free-agency according to Todd Reynolds.
This could be posturing from Bertuzzi's agent, considering his contract was overvalued compared to his performance as a 43 point winger, with the Maple Leafs. His $5.5 Million dollar contract could be the starting point for Bertuzzi and Reynolds, as he now see himself as a top-six winger with the Leafs organization.
However, there's no telling how Brad Treliving will respond to ultimatums, and could be beneficial for Bertuzzi as a free agent who found his game during the 2nd half of the season.
His playoff performance was less than stellar as well.
