The Toronto Maple Leafs are officially parting ways with Ilya Samsonov following a recent announcement.

It was reported by David Alter of The Hockey News on Friday that the Leafs and Samsonov have not closed the door completely on a return next year, but the team also has yet to inform the goaltender on what their plans are.

It seems like the Leafs will be moving on from Ilya Samsonov especially considering they have been in a lot of talks about acquiring a true number one goaltender. The Leafs were in on Markstrom, and Ullmark, but recently a report revealed that Ullmark would not be willing to waive his no-trade clause to go to Toronto.

Samsonov struggled for the Leafs putting up a 3.13 GAA and a .890 SV%, but he had a decent record going 23-7-8 in 40 games played.

There aren't too many goalies left on the market and if the Leafs can't make a trade soon, they might just be stuck with Samsonov.
