Gavin McKenna is the latest player since Connor Bedard to be granted ''exceptional status'' into the WHL, allowing him to enter the league early. Also, because he has a December birthday, the forward is still only 14 years old and playing with the Medicine Hat Tigers.

McKenna lit up the scoreboard in his WHL debut, putting up 4 assists against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. For now, he isn't NHL draft eligible until 2026 due to his late birthday, but he will be a future top-five pick if he continues to play this way.
